TrailSmoke is a free, public-facing tool for exploring NOAA wildfire smoke and fire data. By using the site, you agree to the terms below. If you have questions, contact us.
Not a health or emergency service
TrailSmoke is for informational purposes only. It does not provide medical, emergency, or evacuation advice. Always follow official guidance from NOAA, NWS, EPA AirNow, and local emergency management when air quality or wildfire conditions affect your safety.
Data sources and accuracy
Forecasts come from NOAA HRRR-Smoke, and fire locations come from the NIFC Interagency Fire feed. These are third-party datasets with their own update schedules, limitations, and disclaimers. TrailSmoke does not guarantee accuracy, completeness, or real-time availability. The displayed AQI values are estimated from PM2.5 and do not include ozone, dust, pollen, or other pollutants.
Intellectual property
The TrailSmoke name, design, code, and original content are the property of Ryan Weller and Ryweller. The underlying data (NOAA HRRR-Smoke, NIFC, EPA AirNow) belongs to the respective U.S. federal agencies and is used under their public terms. You may not scrape, republish, or resell TrailSmoke content or code without written permission.
Privacy
TrailSmoke does not require an account. Location and usage data are used only to operate and improve the service, and are never sold.
Changes and availability
The site, its features, and these terms may change at any time. The service is provided as-is, with no warranty of uptime or fitness for a particular purpose.
